I have new LJ friends, and am thus feeling inspired to actually post something!

For the first time ever, I didn't go back to Ohio for Thanksgiving. As much as I love my family, I think it made for a more relaxing weekend, especially since I didn't have to waste the better part of two days messing around in traffic. I had Thanksgiving dinner at the home of some friends of friends, where in addition to eating delicious food, we played lots of board games, some Wii games, and watched some Community. (OMG Community! I recently watched all of seasons 1 and 2 in a single week. I love it.)

[livejournal.com profile] bookwench31 is trying to pull me into Avengers fandom. She will probably be successful. Yesterday I hung out with her and [livejournal.com profile] flyingcarpet and we watched both Iron Mans and Captain America, ate lots of snacks, and tried to figure out how old Howard Stark is. (Answer, we're not 100% sure, but Dominic Cooper is pretty and John Slattery seems more like Walt Disney than a guy that builds deadly weapons.) Now I just have to see Thor, which is next on my Netflix queue.

On the job front, the list of places I do not have a job grows ever longer. But I do have an interview coming up in two weeks. That had better go well cause I've only got four weeks of work left and unemployment would totally cramp my style.

And I think I'll go watch some more Firefly. I've been feeling a bit down, so I decided a Firefly rewatch was just the thing to pick me up a little. Just like early West Wing, it never gets old.

Oh, hey guys! I apparently forgot that LJ let's me do crazy stuff like make posts. Lately I've just been using it for reading copious amounts of SGA fic. Specifically Sheppard/McKay fic.

Yes, that's right. Stargate Atlantis, the show that made me ship a slash pairing.

Now, it's not that I ever was vehemently opposed to slash, but I've always tended towards canon-shipping, and most fandoms don't have many canon slash pairing. (Sadly, Remus/Sirius was never canon. Though it should have been!) But Sheppard/McKay is practically canon, so... woooo!

It's all [livejournal.com profile] bookwench31 and [livejournal.com profile] jumperkid's fault. I couldn't hang out with them without hearing about this or that awesome fic, then one night we ended up watching a fantastic TV movie starring Joe Flanigan, which was naturally followed with selected episodes of SGA. Also, [livejournal.com profile] bookwench31 has tons of SGA fic in her delicious account.

Anyway... I do do other things with my life. I have a job for six more months, so that's good. I'm still looking for other things, which sucks. For once, I don't have to move over the summer, which is a huge relief. Also, kind of unbelievable: I've been living here for 8 months and am not annoyed by my roommates. What?! I've been spending plenty of time with my friends, and I seem to now have the house where bbqs happen. And, imagine my shock, a librarian dude has asked me out.

So hi there flist! Things are pretty good with me, hope they're good with you! :D

Why helloooo. I have not, in fact, fallen off a cliff. I have simply been neglecting LJ due to being busy with things. Things being mainly working and hanging out with my boyfriend.

So what's new in the last month, you ask? Well, it's really freaking hot. I still don't have a job. I went to C-bus for a whirlwind weekend, during which my mom introduced me to petfinder.com, leading to many wasted hours looking at cute kittens. I drank some grog with [livejournal.com profile] bookwench31 and [livejournal.com profile] jumperkid and checked out Eastern Market with [livejournal.com profile] sagacious_c.

Right now I'm making blueberry buckle. I can smell it already... it's going to be soooo delicious. :)

This weekend is the big ALA conference. Basically a gajillion librarians will descend on DC. And I'm going for free! (Thank you, work!) The thing is big enough that it takes up the whole convention center, plus a whole bunch of other hotels. The conference program is over 300 pages long. Yeah. It's a little daunting. I really have no idea how I'm going to attack the conference. A few of my fellow grads are planning a strategy session at our fave Burmese restaurant... hopefully I can make myself an awesome schedule. Or at least one that won't leave me absolutely exhausted on Tuesday.

boom!

Yay graphic recycled from last year! (Efficiency FTW!) I'm headed to a barbecue at a friend's house this afternoon and to D.C. for the fireworks this evening. Before then, random update! )

A friend and former roommate of mine from college is in town for a law internship. I haven't seen her since graduation since she's been in South Bend and I've been... everywhere. We met up today and went to the National Zoo, where I finally got to see the famous pandas. ("Look at me! I'm a cute panda! I'm taking a nap!") Lots of the animals were napping, cause, hey, sunny afternoon, but we did see some that were more active, including two orangutans trying to bite each other and a cheetah digging into a meaty bone.

After the zoo we had a late lunch, and opted to sit outside, since it was pretty much perfect weather for it. Then we wandered around Kalorama and checked out some of the nice houses we'll never be able to afford to live in. (I'm going to be a librarian, after all, and she wants to work for the federal government.) It was great being able to catch up, and we both got to explore the city a little bit. Since she'll be here through July we're hoping to find some other fun weekend stuff to do.

I'm pretty wiped now. All the walking made my legs pretty tired, but hopefully I can get in at least a short bike ride tomorrow. Then I think maybe it's a reading day. And in four more days I'm head to Kansas City for a long weekend! :D

I am such an Olympics junkie. (It's such a bummer that a lot of the live events are on overnight. At some point I have to force myself to stop watching and go to sleep). I could never do any of this, and half of these sports I hardly understand, but it's just so much fun to watch. I especially love when someone unexpected wins an event, because they're just so shocked and happy! What am I going to do on Thursday when I have to spend the day in the car instead of watching swimming? (How do they swim so fast? They make swimming 100 meters in less than a minute look fun and easy. They are secretly FISH PEOPLE.)

Today I met one of my college friends for lunch, which was a lot of fun. We met sophomore year when we had two classes--in two different departments--together. We had lots more classes together after that, so we were long time study buddies. We used to meet for lunch before Italian classes and watch the Oval preacher (which was always good free entertainment), so today was just like old times... except that since then we've both graduated, started grad school, and dropped out of grad school. : )

I'm getting more stuff replaced on my car--spark plugs and some other stuff I can't remember--before I move. Hopefully this is really the end of the car work for awhile. Except I think I still need to get my brakes worked on soon. But those aren't all that important, right? I'll just coast to a stop. Yep. I can haz metro nao?

I don't know what I was thinking, but since I've been in Columbus, I've checked out nine books from the library. In what universe did I think I was going to read nine books in a week and a half? (I think I read ten in the entire month of July, and that was more than usual.) So sadly, they all have to go back tomorrow. I finished a good one last night--The Monsters of Templeton--so I'll try to write up a quick review if I get a chance tomorrow.

One more day and then I'll officially live in Virginia! And I won't have to move again for another two years. Yay!!! And now... GYMNASTICS!

If you've been looking for some great Harry Potter fic to read this Sunday afternoon, look no further my friends! The lovely [livejournal.com profile] sea_thoughts wrote me a Harry/Ginny fic for my birthday, which is posted here at her journal.

Go! Read! :D

The bullet points of amazement...

*This weekend, the first of my high school circle of friends got married. The ceremony was simple but pretty, with good music played by a brass quintet of OSUMB members, and the bride (my friend) looked gorgeous. I sat with my high school crew at the reception, which was a fun chance to catch up. We were all amazed to realize that we now have a married friend. Does that mean we really have to be adults now?

*I don't usually watch pro football, and I don't support any particular NFL team, but the Super Bowl was quite a game! (Much better the BCS Championship. Ugh.) We were cheering for the Giants and thought that catching a ball using your helmet is a pretty awesome way to get a first down.

*My bedroom has a floor. It's ugly blue carpet that saw it's best days about 20 years ago, but at least I know it's there still! I'd say I'm going to stay more organized, but that's probably a lie, but now that I've thrown out a lot of unnecessary junk, at least I have a fighting chance.
