I have a mosquito bite on my face

I do. It's pretty annoying.

  • Fourth of July weekend was a much needed respite from my daily schedule, complete with barbecuing, board games, and fireworks. This year I watched the fireworks standing in a crosswalk in Adams Morgan. The view was surprising good!

  • Today I've been trying, with limited success, to de-clutter my room. Since I'm moving again at the end of the month, I thought it was time to finally unpack the last two boxes from when I moved a year ago. It's all the stuff I didn't want to deal with then, but dealing with it now isn't any more appealing. It's also laundry day... another chore that I hate.

  • Later this week I'll be housesitting for some friends. They have three cats, so I'm kind of psyched about it! :) I miss having pets, especially since my mom's been emailing me photos of her new puppy.

  • Still no job. Still trying not to freak out about it. I've mostly been successful, except for an embarrassing period this afternoon when I went in to full on panic mode. It's hard not to get a bit discouraged after five months of failed job hunting.

Hope everyone is well, and if you're in the US that you had a nice holiday weekend! :)

Stay calm! The job will happen! Any news on the status of morphing your current position? You're right that continuous job hunting is brutal, though. :( It takes up enormous amounts of strength and perseverance and mental toughness, so be sure to give yourself credit for enduring that.

Where are you moving to?

I miss pets, too! A cat has adopted us and taken to hovering outside the front door and trying to sneak inside whenever it thinks it can get away with it. I'm confused because this is all very sudden -- we've been here for two years so it's not like the cat is continuing a pattern from a previous owner. Also, I'm not a cat person so I kind of just ignore it (but Matt pets it and is nice to it, so I guess it feels encouraged to keep breaking in).

There's still nothing definitive about my current position, but it's not looking good. I've got some other applications out, and another to send tonight. And DCPL will be hiring again in October...

For now, I'm moving back to Virginia. My aunt offered to let me stay while I'm looking for a job so that I won't have to move back to Ohio. I'm really grateful for that, but at the same time it's hard to fight that narrative that says I'm not supposed to have to rely on anyone else.

I guess you and Matt just seem like nice people? Maybe the cat's owners moved away and left it. Which is terrible, but I know people do that.
