In honor of banned books week, I bring you an anime series about librarians who fight censorship. With machine guns.

It's called Toshokan Sensou, which means "Library War", and it was inspired by the Japan Library Association's "Statement on Intellectual Freedom in Libraries." So basically, it's right up my nerd alley.
The main character is Kasahara Iku, a librarian in the Kanto Library Defense Force. When she was still in school, a member of the Defense Force protected her favorite book from being censored. She thinks of the man who saved her book as her prince, and the experience inspires her to become a librarian. It's such a strange premise for a show, but I kind of love it. Even though I'm not a fan of wars or guns by any means, the basic idea that free access to information is something worth protecting at all costs is pretty cool. So far I've only seen three episodes, but I'm looking forward to watching the rest.

Remember kids, only you can prevent book banning.
