As if the Twilight phenomenon hadn't brought about enough lulz already, there is an amazing article about "real" vampires in today's Washington Post.

VAMPIRES CAN FEED ON YOUR POSITIVE PSYCHIC ENERGY. AT APPLEBEE'S!!

The writer, Monica Hesse, seemed to have a lot of fun writing the story. (Just as I had lots of fun reading it.) Here's her problem with vampires being normal people, just with a strange "energy deficiency":
It's all so borrring, so very borrring. Deep down, deep way down, we don't really want vampires to be just like us, because we are pretty lame.

While we're on the subject of vampires and lameness... I need your opinion, flist. True Blood: lame or not? As cracktastically awesome as Moonlight? Or just sadly lacking in Jason Dohring being hot and Sophia Myles being a BAMF?

I like True Blood, but it took some getting used to. Sometimes it is basically nothing more than soft-core porn (not complaining about that). The acting/writing can be cheesy, but when you are dealing with vampires, this comes to be expected. Overall, I find it engaging and entertaining. I like the whole redneck vampire thing. I like the location and I love what happens to vampires when they get staked in this show (hint: not an easy cleanup in the way that Buffy vamps just got a bit dusty). If you like a bit of mystery and a bit of horror and romance, you should like the show. Took me a few episodes before I started getting into it, but now I'm totally hooked.

Just keep in mind that this is HBO so we are talking LOTS of gratuitous sex, blood, and filthy language.

*sigh* I guess I can put up with it if I must... ;)

Oh, PS. Re: the 'real' vampire phenomenon. South Park did an AWESOME job of making fun of this last week.

South Park is all available online, right? I'll have to look for it.

I'll second that True Blood takes a few episodes to get used to, but once you get the feel for it I thought it was pretty good. Definitely not as cracktastically awesome as Moonlight and no hawt Jason Dohring or Sophia Myles, but Anna Paquin is pretty awesome.

Also, I'm a sucker for the whole "being able to read people's thoughts" thing. And redneck vamps are pretty fun.

The only thing that would make it really amazing would be if it were in space! Why has no one done this yet?!?!?!

For some reason the first time I read that I thought that you said that Anna Paquin was sparkley. I blame Twilight for drawing any vampire related thoughts to sparkles.

There are psychic powers in True Blood then?

The reason that no one has done vampires in space is because you consistently talk about it but don't do it! You've got to write it so the whole world can see the awesome. Or you could just send Joss lots and lots of letters telling him to make a Firefly/Buffy crossover when Dollhouse gets cancelled.

LMAO "when Dollhouse gets cancelled." I was just reading about its time slot the other day and how it's apparently seen as a death sentence. ::sob:: I don't want it to get cancelled! Joss! And Eliza Dushku is hot!

And yeah, True Blood's main character can hear people's thoughts. Makes things interesting.

Deadly time slot? It's not on Friday night, is it?

But really, sad as it is, it will get canceled. I read some thing on io9 about how this is going to be Joss's best work because it's more high concept (compared to "blonde girl kills vampires" or "wild west in space") and will of course have the normal great characters, dialogue, etc.

Except I think the "high concept" thing will be detrimental, cause it's kinda hard to figure out what the show's actually about.

::sigh::

But Joss high concept! Come on!

... Yeah, people won't get it. Hopefully Fox at least keeps it around for awhile. I mean, Sarah Connor is still going, despite being a genre show and having quite a few flaws.

::icon luv for Eliza Dushku::
