I made it!

I can finally crawl out from that rock I've been living under! What have I been up to the last week?

  1. Writing final exams. By the end of the semester, I felt like I was just writing non-stop, and I had so much to do that I pretty much ceased to care about quality, as long as all my assignments and exams got done. And they did. I suspect some were rather crap, but whatever.

  2. Eating all the free food I could find. Up until this Saturday, I hadn't been grocery shopping for two weeks. The end of the semester is a great time for free barbecues, pizza parties, and the like! And at work, we went to a fancy luncheon hosted by the university president's wife.

  3. Watching TV! It's so nice to have free time again. I'm most of the way through How I Met Your Mother season 3, I'm catching up with Fringe and keeping up with Ashes to Ashes. I'm feeling kind of "need more sci-fi" since BSG ended, so I think Stargate gets bumped up to the Netflix queue, because I feel like I should watch the movie first. Or maybe I should go with Babylon 5? Or some Trek?

  4. Apartment hunting. I'm going to go see an apartment and meet a potential roommate on Thursday evening. Hopefully it will go well, because new housing headaches seem to develop all the time.

  5. Reading. The last book I finished was rather meh. The idea was promising, but the characters were "OMG QUIRKY" without enough depth to feel real. I'm not sure what I want to start next. Any awesome book suggestions from the f-list?

Congratulations on being done!

Are you moving closer to MD?

Thanks!

Yes. I can't live this far away for another year or I'll go crazy(er). The place I'm looking at is in Silver Spring.

Woo! You made it! I award you bonus points for maximizing your free food opportunities -- a true grad school life skill. ;)

Which city/apartment are you targeting for your move?

I've been missing sci-fi lately too, and am dealing with the gaping void by watching Star Trek's original series on the CBS website. I've been flirting with the idea of exploring the Star Gate franchise, though...

The apartment I'm checking out this week is at Blair East in Silver Spring. One of my friends has been lobbying for me to move to Silver Spring, but Takoma Park or NW DC would be alright too. I'm less enthused about College Park or Hyattsville because, well... PG County isn't that nice.

You know, I don't think I've every actually seen any original Star Trek? I've seen plenty of Next Generation, but not in any organized way, over the years, though. And I've seen some Stargate Atlantis, and it seems like a promising franchise, though definitely not meaty like BSG.

I'm so excited for you to move and waste less of your life commuting. I've heard good things about Silver Spring and Takoma Park, and as long as you were in the part of NW DC where you could easily get to the side of the red line closest to College Park, your commute would be fine. (Otherwise, I'd say steer clear of the red line through NW -- it gets extremely congested and frequently has delays.) Now that you're finished with classes we should get together one of these weekends!

Yeah, I guess I'd be sticking most to the far East of NW... like Mount Pleasant/Columbia Heights area. It's a pretty quick ride to College Park from the Columbia Heights Metro. I definitely don't want to deal with the Red Line headaches.

We totally should! Let me know what works well for you, as I suspect with the arrival of my summer break you've got the busiest schedule.

Congrats! And you get to come out and visit me soon!

I'd say if you want some awesome hardcore sci-fi, go for Babylon 5 before Stargate. Stargate is fun, but Babylon 5 just has so much awesome going for it.

Dance Party 2K9!! Spring Break!! Wooo!

I suspected you would pull for Babylon 5... and I do know that Ivanova is god. (Except when Starbuck is.) Although supposedly the newest Stargate is supposed to edgier or whatever.

Besides the hotness of Ivanova, B5 is just... masterful. At least until its last season. But up to that, it's just amazing how well written and seamless it all is, especially since that kind of continuity wasn't really in at the time.
