I agree with you that Twilight was the best the series had to offer. It's got the magic of discovery, whereas the rest of the series is a ridiculous soap-opera. Not that I didn't voraciously read them all...
Breaking Dawn was definitely too long. My issue with the whole vampire war at the end was that there was way too much build up and not enough payoff. And Bella's power was kinda cool, but not nearly as fun as I thought it would be.
