Two things about last night's Bones: Spoilers, duh )

Usually about a couple weeks from the end of an academic term (quarter, semester, whatever) I get overwhelmed by and/or stop caring about school and end up reading tons of YA novels and marathoning TV or anime. Now as a general rule I watch too much TV—it is my grad school procrastination tool of choice—but lately I am taking that to a whole new extreme.

[livejournal.com profile] d4ni kept talking about how great Legend of the Seeker is, and I was kind of "oh, whatever, it's just some syndicated swords and sorcery thing." And then I finally watched some. I thought the first episode was okay but a tad cheesy, and then I watched the second and OMG THIS SHOW IS SO AMAZING. I'm almost completely caught up on seasons 1 and 2 in only a week and a half because I just can't stop. It somehow has the absolutely perfect combo of magic, sword fights, hot people, bamfy women, pretty scenery, CRACK, and actual good vs. evil plottiness. And the fandom is full of frivolity and femslash and more crack.

My icon right there *points up* is Kahlan from LotS. She's a Confessor, which basically means she can kill you with her brain, or alternately her daggers, and she's on a mission to help the eponymous Seeker defeat the big baddie who's terrorizing New Zealand the Midlands.

You should all go watch! Really! Here are 10 good reasons to watch Legend of the Seeker and then I will shut up about it... for now.

This is an exciting week, because everything is new! First there was Chuck and spoiler ) Then there was Bones and Fringe finally returning from hiatus last night. I tried to watch, but the Princess had a friend over and they were talking really loud (in the same room) and watching YouTube videos, so I couldn't completely follow what was going on in Bones, and I just gave up on Fringe. Bones made me laugh though, cause the crime was in the Metro system, you know, the one my mother thinks I should write a book about. I wonder if the mysterious Rock Creek Metro station is like the Tube stations in Neverwhere.

As if that were not enough, there is new Ashes to Ashes tonight and new Doctor Who tomorrow. I've been totally out of the loop Whoniverse wise, but I saw a couple of the recent trailers and the episode synopses from the Radio Times, and now I'm excited for it! And to top it off, I've got two more episodes of Caprica to catch on Hulu and all of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has suddenly become available on Netflix instant play.

I am never going to get any schoolwork done. Ever.
Class ended today! Now I can post about frivolous things with no guilt.

Also watching: The Office, 30 Rock, old Spooks (MI-5) on Netflix

Shows I'm abandoning: FlashForward, Stargate Universe, V
I gave these a chance at the beginning of the season, but I'm just not pulled in enough to keep going. If you're watching and understand the secret awesome, please let me know.

Shows I need to catch up on: Fringe, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Merlin, How I Met Your Mother... all of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Fringe runs against The Office and 30 Rock, and on Thursday nights I need some laughs. (It's the one night a week I watch network TV instead of Hulu.) The others are simply lack of time!

*Right now we have free HBO. (We have for awhile now, not that I usually have time to watch.) On Sunday I caught the end of The Land Before Time, which I really loved as a kid, and ended up crying at the end. Watching cartoon dinosaurs. Because that is the type of sap I am.

I love it when things work out.

I was flipping through the guide on my cable thinking how it was too bad that Bones doesn't air on Saturday night... then lo and behold, two reruns on one of the local channels. Hurrah! I'm a bit obsessed with this show at the moment. (But it is totally obsession worthy, as this squee-filled post about next week's promo from [livejournal.com profile] fiery_twilight will attest.)

Theoretically I'm also working on a final exam at the moment. It's a group final, and my group came over her last night for about four hours so we could review all of our drafts. Now I'm working on expanding and revising, and figuring out how to draw organizational charts on my computer. Fuuuun. There is my awesome Saturday night guys! :D

Also, it snowed today. It won't stick around, cause it's still too warm here, but at least now it's seems like winter has started.

  • Last night I set two alarms to ensure that I'd be out of bed and out the door on time. I made it to the Metro, then had to wait half an hour because some train with mechanical problems was blocking the track and was late for work anyway!

  • I've read plenty about those fancy pants ebook readers, but never seen a real person using one, until today, when I saw two. I'm still not sold.

  • Apparently, Lake Superior State University publishes a yearly list of words that should be banished from the English language. Although I agree we were a bit over-mavericked this year, I find this type of linguistic whining irritating. Blah blah they're ruining "the Queen's English" (say some folks in Michigan, lol). CRY MOAR, BBS!!

  • My roommate cleaned up his huge mess in the kitchen, so now it is safe to cook in with out poisoning myself. I'm making pasta with pesto right now. Yum!

  • Only two weeks til Inauguration Day! I still haven't decided whether to brave the cold and the crowds, or just watch on TV from the comfort of my sofa.

  • And speaking of TV, Bones and Battlestar Galactica come back next week! Sadly, I don't have cable, so I'll have to wait an extra day for BSG. :( I've been meaning to rewatch the first half of S4, which I think I can manage at one episode per day if I start tomorrow.

  • Still listening to the CD101 Top 2009. Still awesome.

I've been slacking a bit on the school work this weekend. Yesterday I spent a lot of the day out in the yard planting and composting, and today I'm trying to work on laundry and cleaning. And in between I've been catching up on some TV watching. Maybe I should be doing projects, but I feel like a deserve a bit of time to relax, yeah? So without further ado, everything on TV ever. (Well, not quite.)

I got up for work at 5:30 this morning and just got home.

*iz ded*

I drove into the District for the first time this weekend and got lost three times. I officially FAIL at Rock Creek Parkway. Somehow, I managed to get where I was going only fifteen minutes late.

I went to a different church this Sunday (cause I was too lazy too get up in the morning) and they had a folk group that was actually really good. That was refreshing. I learned that I still know all the words to "One Bread, One Body."

I've started watching Bones several years late, and I listened to my first Big Finish on the Metro. There was more Sarah Jane Adventures tonight, but I'm too tired to hunt it down right now.

In 1938 the Maryland band's two drum majorettes were suspended after parents and alumni complained that their skirts were too short. (I learn important stuff like this at work.) Also, the Wisconsin band got suspended this weekend, thus proving that Dr. Jon R. Woods actually knew what he was talking about all those times when he warned us not to act like the Wisconsin band.

Tomorrow... MOAR DEBATES!! *registertovote* I got my absentee ballot on Friday. I have eight choices for president. Cool.

And that's all she wrote.
