The 100th episode of Bones is coming up in just a bit, but before that, a look back at this week's Chuck non-finale. (The episode was originally intended to be the season finale, but NBC ended up ordering six more episodes. Yay for more Chuck!) The short version? It was awesome.

And this is the part with the spoilers )

There's still no word yet whether Chuck will be renewed for a fourth season, but I really hope it is. If you're not already, you really should WATCH CHUCK! Supposedly the beginning of the next arc (on April 26) will be a good point for new people to jump in. Doooo it.

PSA: Warning, there are Bones spoilers in the comments.
Usually about a couple weeks from the end of an academic term (quarter, semester, whatever) I get overwhelmed by and/or stop caring about school and end up reading tons of YA novels and marathoning TV or anime. Now as a general rule I watch too much TV—it is my grad school procrastination tool of choice—but lately I am taking that to a whole new extreme.

[livejournal.com profile] d4ni kept talking about how great Legend of the Seeker is, and I was kind of "oh, whatever, it's just some syndicated swords and sorcery thing." And then I finally watched some. I thought the first episode was okay but a tad cheesy, and then I watched the second and OMG THIS SHOW IS SO AMAZING. I'm almost completely caught up on seasons 1 and 2 in only a week and a half because I just can't stop. It somehow has the absolutely perfect combo of magic, sword fights, hot people, bamfy women, pretty scenery, CRACK, and actual good vs. evil plottiness. And the fandom is full of frivolity and femslash and more crack.

My icon right there *points up* is Kahlan from LotS. She's a Confessor, which basically means she can kill you with her brain, or alternately her daggers, and she's on a mission to help the eponymous Seeker defeat the big baddie who's terrorizing New Zealand the Midlands.

You should all go watch! Really! Here are 10 good reasons to watch Legend of the Seeker and then I will shut up about it... for now.

This is an exciting week, because everything is new! First there was Chuck and spoiler ) Then there was Bones and Fringe finally returning from hiatus last night. I tried to watch, but the Princess had a friend over and they were talking really loud (in the same room) and watching YouTube videos, so I couldn't completely follow what was going on in Bones, and I just gave up on Fringe. Bones made me laugh though, cause the crime was in the Metro system, you know, the one my mother thinks I should write a book about. I wonder if the mysterious Rock Creek Metro station is like the Tube stations in Neverwhere.

As if that were not enough, there is new Ashes to Ashes tonight and new Doctor Who tomorrow. I've been totally out of the loop Whoniverse wise, but I saw a couple of the recent trailers and the episode synopses from the Radio Times, and now I'm excited for it! And to top it off, I've got two more episodes of Caprica to catch on Hulu and all of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has suddenly become available on Netflix instant play.

I am never going to get any schoolwork done. Ever.

I've got a new layout! (It's really an old layout with a new header and a couple of tweaks, but still.) The last one was very wintery, so I thought now that it's March I should move on, and since I'm into Chuck right now, why not make that the theme? Plus, it gave me something to do besides reading job postings.

Both of my roommates are gone for the week, one in California and one in London. I get the entire apartment to myself! I never have to watch The Real World or Millionaire Matchmaker or Real Housewives of Anywhere! How am I celebrating? Eating cereal for dinner, putting in a couple loads of laundry*, and watching North by Northwest. Yeah, I really know how to live on the wild side.

I'm invited to an Oscar party tomorrow. Not that I really care about the Oscars at all, but hanging out with some friends with food and drink is much more my speed than going out. So tomorrow I should actually leave my apartment (going next door to Giant, which I did today because I needed milk for my cereal—and ice cream—hardly counts).

It's almost my birthday. Woo! My mom is going to make cake, which is pretty much the most exciting thing about birthdays. What can I say, I like sweets! :D

*Special laundry sidenote: When I went down to the laundry room, none of the washers and dryers were in use, but there was a woman sitting in the little lunge area watching a Caps game. I wonder if she doesn't have a TV in her apartment or if she really just likes watching hockey in the laundry room.
  • I haven't complained about school much recently, so I should do that. It's totally getting in the way! I'm now supervising three student assistants and a volunteer at work, which is complicated since I'm still part time.
  • Today in the department of crazy coincidences, I was talking to my sister on the phone, and we discovered that we both got North by Northwest from Netflix today. She didn't believe me at first and kept shouting "Are you shitting me?" at the phone.
  • I bought myself a couple CDs as an early birthday present—Mumford and Sons' Sigh No More and Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster. I hope Amazon's recommendation thing is at least a tiny bit confused.
  • There was new Chuck this week! It helps me get over the loss of curling. )
  • One more week until spring break!

Chuck!

I've thus far neglected to mention my newest awesome TV discovery. Okay, technically that's curling... so my almost newest new favorite: Chuck.

I had heard several positive endorsements of the show, including from my brother, who has a similar sense of humor, then I caught part of a marathon on Sci-Fi one weekend, and decided I needed to get it from Netflix. During the recent Snowmageddon I watched the entire second season then caught up with the third on Hulu. I quickly learned that Chuck isn't just "that show with Jayne from Firefly." It's action-packed and really funny, has a fantastic cast, and features excellent music to boot.

For those unfamiliar with the show, here it is in a nutshell: Chuck Bartowski is a computer technician at a Buy More electronics store whose life changes when he downloads a secret government computer, the Intersect, into his brain, e-mailed to him from his college roommate and nemesis, rogue CIA agent Bryce Larkin. Enter Major John Casey of the NSA and Agent Sarah Walker of the CIA, who poses as Chuck's girlfriend. Spy hijinks ensue, while Chuck tries to hide his new secret life from his big sister Ellie, her boyfriend "Captain Awesome," and his best buddy Morgan. There's a continuing storyline to the show, but since each episode features a new mission, it's also really watchable out of continuity. (So you should all watch, natch!)

Spoilery things under the cut )

Chuck come back tomorrow, and it looks like the upcoming episodes are going to be, well, awesome!

Sadly, I have class tomorrow night until 9 p.m. (ewww) so I won't be able to watch until Tuesday. Thank goodness for Hulu!
