On Thursday morning I got to see President Obama! He came to campus for a rally about health care reform. I almost didn't attend because of all the portents of doom from the administration about how bad traffic and parking were going to be and how I was going to have to go stand in line at the dack of crawn just to get into the Comcast Center.
The rally was scheduled to start at 11am, and shortly before that, my friend heard that they were still letting people in until 11:15, so we had a brisk walk/jog across campus and were seated well ahead of the President's arrival.
I'm really glad we decided to go because it was a really positive experience. Having been without health insurance before when I was working part time and couldn't afford to purchase it, I think providing universal access to health care is pretty darn important. The news lately has been pretty discouraging, what with all the crazy talk of death panels, which is easy to laugh at until you realize the depressing truth that people actually believe that crap, so the rally was the perfect antidote. There was tons of positive energy, and President Obama was engaging and seemed really dedicated to finding a solution. Some fun highlights for us included the guy sitting directly behind us who got very excited about the public option ("YEAH! PUBLIC OPTION!") and the guy with the Kanye style banner that read "Thanks Obama, and I'mma let you finish, but Canada had the best healthcare of all time."
Also, Rachel Maddow talked about us!
Kids these days! :P

And yeah, Kanye clearly does not think before speaking.
It's not that, he's just egotistical! When "Touch The Sky" was nominated for Best Vid of the Year about 3 years ago and someone else won, he ran onto the stage back then and started expostulating about how this was ridiculous and even stated "If I don't win, the award show loses credibility." So I wasn't suurprised about what he did, just wondered what possessed him.
