The Waters of Mars

Holy hell, the Doctor's gone completely bonkers! (That is my reaction to this ep in a nutshell. Or, as I told d4ni earlier, OMGWTFBBQ.)

"The Waters of Mars" was dark and scary, as all the trailers told it would be, but the inevitability of the crews deaths meant it was the Doctor himself, not the Martian water monsters that were truly frightening.

I don't know what the Doctor was talking about when he said that Handy was like him before meeting Rose. Ten in "The Waters of Mars" seems to have ended up where Nine ended up before Rose, Martha, and Donna intervened. Only now he's decided to channel his survivor's guilt into some sort of god complex. At the end, I initially thought he had landed the crew in a different time so that they'd technically still be "dead" in 2059, but no, he's so damaged he thinks he can prevent anyone else from dying ever and damn the consequences. (He needs Donna back like whoa.)

From the looks of it, Rusty's going to turn the angst up to eleven for Ten's final outing. (Also the random portents of DOOM. Hey there, random Ood Sigma! *waves*) Is it wrong that I got kind of gleeful when I saw John Simm's face pop up, even though I know there won't be fun Doctor-Master hijinks?

Angst analysis aside, I thought it was a good outing... way cooler than "Planet of the Dead." The supporting cast was generally good, and Adelaide was both tragic and kickass. I also was highly amused by the Doctor's name, rank, and intention line. Particularly David Tennant's delivery of the word "fun." It's a good thing I know the Doctor's regenerating and getting a new companion soon, cause, sorry Ten, I don't think you're going to be having much fun in the near future.

Well, that was hypocrisy of the purest kind even then! Handy was just what Ten didn't like to think he was capable of. 'Cept he's shown that he is. That whole last conversation with Adelaide? Take another look at his expression, he's definitely channelling John Simm.

I just finished watching it! Loved Adelaide so much and looking forward to at least getting to see Donna again, even if it means ANGSTORAMA.

There can never be too much Donna! Ideally I'd love to see some resolution to her storyline, but I don't want to get my hopes up too much.
