I've thus far neglected to mention my newest awesome TV discovery. Okay, technically that's curling... so my almost newest new favorite: Chuck.

I had heard several positive endorsements of the show, including from my brother, who has a similar sense of humor, then I caught part of a marathon on Sci-Fi one weekend, and decided I needed to get it from Netflix. During the recent Snowmageddon I watched the entire second season then caught up with the third on Hulu. I quickly learned that Chuck isn't just "that show with Jayne from Firefly." It's action-packed and really funny, has a fantastic cast, and features excellent music to boot.

For those unfamiliar with the show, here it is in a nutshell: Chuck Bartowski is a computer technician at a Buy More electronics store whose life changes when he downloads a secret government computer, the Intersect, into his brain, e-mailed to him from his college roommate and nemesis, rogue CIA agent Bryce Larkin. Enter Major John Casey of the NSA and Agent Sarah Walker of the CIA, who poses as Chuck's girlfriend. Spy hijinks ensue, while Chuck tries to hide his new secret life from his big sister Ellie, her boyfriend "Captain Awesome," and his best buddy Morgan. There's a continuing storyline to the show, but since each episode features a new mission, it's also really watchable out of continuity. (So you should all watch, natch!)

Season three has changed things around a bit, what with Chuck uploading the Intersect 2.0 and learning to control it and the accompanying new skills, Ellie and Awesome moving out and Morgan moving in, and Shaw's arrival as the new team leader. I think it's a great choice on the part of the writers that the new intersect has obvious limits. It would be boring if Chuck suddenly became the world's most perfect spy.

Also, as much as I'm rooting for Chuck/Sarah, I think it makes a lot of sense that they're not together right now. It's totally Chuck to give up the opportunity to run away with her because of a sense of duty and wanting to make a difference. Chuck's growing up a lot, but he's also changing from the honest, nerdy, heart-on-his-sleeve guy that Sarah fell in love with. I think things will turn out all right in the end, but for now we have to deal with the Shaw and Hannah "being with the wrong people" section of the story.

Chuck come back tomorrow, and it looks like the upcoming episodes are going to be, well, awesome!

Sadly, I have class tomorrow night until 9 p.m. (ewww) so I won't be able to watch until Tuesday. Thank goodness for Hulu!

I've been meaning to get into this show for a while. Sound right up my alley.

Yay! Chuck! The show with the most annoying shippers since Harry Potter. I agree it makes sense they're not together right now - and what does it matter, anyway? As long as the cast have good chemistry with each other and the story lines are fun, the love story is just one part of the journey.

The show is watchable out of order, but for me Chuck is all about the arc - the character and his relationships (family and otherwise), so a new viewer would get more out of watching it from the beginning. But that's probably just my prejudice about the kinds of shows I like to watch coming through...

Thanks for posting the preview - I never get to see them.
