I have watched this episode way too many times. Seriously, it’s like a disease. I have, at least, stopped freaking out. This was just supposed to be a more sane review, but somehow morphed into a picspam.
There were a lot of characters to juggle, and I think RTD did a good job with that. Nobody took the spotlight. The Doctor and Donna got less screen time than they usually do, but the focus was still on them, since everyone’s plans revolve around finding them. And can I just say how exciting it was to see Torchwood on Doctor Who? Sarah Jane’s been in New Who already, so she had a lovely return, but Gwen and Ianto have never left spin-off land. (They’re also so much more mysterious about the Doctor on Torchwood than on SJA.) Oh, and Torchwood team? Meet Doctor Who Jack! Isn’t he great?

What does fandom have against Gwen? I think she’s sort of awesome, so I don’t understand why so many people seem to hate her. I liked the shout-out to Rhys (the Mickey of Torchwood—annoying in season one, awesome in season 2) and her reaction to the young Doctor. She and Ianto are totally BFFs.

I know people insist that the Daleks are overused, and maybe they are, but it doesn’t really bother me. Whether they are or not, is it possible to watch Lis Sladen and not find them kind of terrifying? I haven’t seen “Genesis of the Daleks” yet, but I really need to. I hope that Luke gets to do something cool, like coming to rescue his mum, in “Journey’s End.” It's too bad Maria and Clyde aren't around, but they might've been a few too many characters to deal with.

Poor Martha. She always gets stuck with the scary American accents. But, hey, UNIT knows what a BAMF she is, so they gave her a promotion. And they have important sounding things like “Project Indigo” and “Ultimate Code Red”!! I’m not even going to guess what the key thing is, but I think we can all see this is the Chekhov’s gun of the episode. Whatever happens, it’s gonna be big.

Rose can call up “control” (her Torchwood? Mickey?) and shift locations. Okay, so that’s what she was doing in “Turn Left.” But it’s still unclear how much she knows about what’s going on, and what her goal is, beyond finding the Doctor and Donna. And blowing up Daleks. There's also the mystery of Bad Wolf. Does she still have some of the vortex in her, or did she leave all those signs way back in PoTW? I know a lot of people thought Rose was petty for being jealous of Martha, but I’m willing to cut her some slack. She’s traveled from another universe, and instead of being able to talk to her old friends she has to watch the conversation alone, still cut off.

Could the Doctor and Donna be more perfect together? I really don’t think so. She understands him so well. She knows how much Rose means to him, so she knows it’s good that she’s back. She sees the Doctor’s fear of Davros, and reassures him that they’re safe together on the TARDIS. She’s his best friend, even though he’s sometimes rude to her: “The bees disappearing?” Don’t ever doubt the genius of Donna!

Donna is awesome on her own as well. I love when she stands up to the Shadow Proclamation woman as “a human being.” That fiery side is part of what marks her so amazing. Her entire planet is gone, but she refuses to give up, even at the point when the Doctor runs out of ideas. And again, we’re told there’s something special about Donna. What’s that heartbeat sound? She’s something new? I think that eliminates the possibility of her being fobwatched anyone, but other than that, I’ve got nothing.

Soo… Jack/Sarah Jane or Jack/Donna? Maybe Jack/Sarah Jane/Donna? OT3!!

And now: MAH BATSHIT, LET ME SHOW YOU IT!
Donna is ship Doctor/Rose! (Completely unrelated, but I like how her hair is all curly on the ends. It’s probably just the humidity, but it’s cute.) I’ve also read that Dalek Caan ships Doctor/Romana, which I’m cool with too cause Four/Romana is totally canon… but has absolutely no bearing on the REUNION SQUEE!

This scene made me so ridiculously happy! Like David pointed out in the Confidential, since her mysterious appearance in “Partners in Crime” we’ve all been waiting for Rose to find the Doctor again. FINALLY! :D Just look at his face. Even though he knows Donna saw Rose before, he still can’t believe it’s really her. And Rose's giant smile. Happy Rose is happy!

LOVE THE RUNNING! I wasn’t spoiled for this, so I totally thought we were headed for a giant reunion hug à la “The Satan Pit.” But noooo. Because RTD is an evil, evil person. (I’ll admit the bit about all romantic movies needing Daleks was funny, though I kinda wonder about his vendetta against Hugh Grant.) Just give the man some happy, dammit!

And finally, back to Donna. The Doctor’s not very good at learning from past mistakes. At least Donna has Rose and Jack with her, but still, the Doctor appears to be dying and then bursts into flames and she has no idea what’s going on!

Rose is totally going to have a complex now. That's twice now that she's been a factor in the Doctor's regeneration. Ten is guilty and emo enough, we don't need emo Rose too!
I'm still very afraid for Donna next week, and also a little for Rose. (They are unfortunately, the most killable, since they lack spin-off series. Technically, so does Martha, but I’ll bet they’ll keep her around to help out at Torchwood.) Donna’s had tons of foreshadowing, so I’m very concerned about losing her. I know Catherine Tate’s leaving anyway, but I’d love to have a universe where Donna Noble is still out there somewhere, even if we don’t get to watch her every week.
