Okay, since
d4ni asked nicely for me to share so she wouldn't be the only one posting random fic to her LJ. This was originally posted in the Sugar Quill forums in response to the drabble prompt "library." And no, it's actually not about Hermione.
“Pads! Pads, you in here?” Parvati Patil shouted as she barged through the library doors. “Sorry, Madam Pince!” she called as she ran past the Hogwarts librarian, who for once was too stunned to react to this latest display of poor library decorum.
Parvati spotted her twin sister studying a huge leather bound volume in the library’s Restricted Section. When Parvati arrived, still at a run, Padma finally lifted her eyes from the dusty tome.
“Really, Parvati. Keep it down. I’m trying to study,” said Padma.
“Sorry, Pads, but this is important. Can’t you take a break from the swotty, head-girl gig for a minute and listen to me!”
Padma rolled her eyes but smiled. If nothing else, Parvati’s flair for the dramatic kept life interesting.
“Okay, I’m listening.”
“Good.” Parvati lowered her voice to a whisper and said, “I just talked to Neville in the common room. We’re reforming the DA! We’re going to fight back!” Even at a whisper, Padma could hear the excitement in Parvati’s voice.
“Calm down Parvati. You have to act like everything’s normal, or you’ll get us caught.”
“Sorry, sorry. That means you’re in?”
“Of course I’m in. Tell me when we’re meeting, and I’ll be there, but right now I’ve got studying to do.” Padma turned back to her book, dismissing her sister.
“What’re you reading that’s so important?” said Parvati, grabbing the book of the table. She turned it around to examine the spine and read out loud, “Death at Dawn: Dueling for the Dastardly and Daring. Oh. I’ll leave you to it, then.”
Parvati stood and smiled at her sister. “I’ll just be going,” she announced loudly. “See you at dinner, if you can tear yourself away from your books, that is..” Parvati winked, then left Padma alone with her book.
