In honor of Canada Day, the current issue of Maclean's has a special report: "How Canada Stole the American Dream." (Those meanies! Make them give it back! :P) The basic premise is that in many ways, the average Canadian is better of than the average American.

"But as it turns out while [Americans]'ve been out conquering the world, here in Canada we've been quietly working away at building better lives. While they've been pursing happiness, we've been achieving it."

And...
"Believe it or not, we now have more wealth than Americans, even though we work shorter hours. We drink more often, but we live longer and have fewer diseases. We have more sex, more sex partners and we're more adventurous in bed, but we have fewer teen pregnancies and fewer sexually transmitted diseases. We spend more time with family and friends, and more time exploring the world. Even in crime we come out ahead: we're just as prone to break the law, but when we do it, we don't get shot. Most of the time we don't even go to jail."

More reasons for me to move (back) to Canada! :D

The question is just where to go. I liked Montreal, but I'm really not employable in Quebec. And other than that I've never been west of Toronto or east of Quebec City, but there are plenty of other options. BC sounds nice, except maybe for the raininess.

Of course, realistically I need to find a job somewhere and go there, not try to pick a city an only try for a job in one place.

Well, I mean, how hot is "super hot"? Cause Kansas is pretty hot during the summer, and BCs significantly farther north, so I can't imagine it's any worse. Extreme cold would be a pretty big adjustment though. After my aunt describing her trip to Winnipeg this January, I think that it's out! Even if Meghan does love it, there's only so much we "southern" girls can take. :P

You really should try for a job here- I know for a fact that there are quite a few openings coming up in Ottawa, and I'm sure the story is the same elsewhere. Granted, they seem to think the French thing is important here, too, but there are a lot of people who have gotten around that. :D

Ottawa might actually be a much better place to learn some French (beyond reading the street signs French) since everyone there seemed much more receptive too attempts at French than in Montreal. Too bad I can't put all that Italian to use!

Like other than learning how to speak it?

Voulez-vous un pamplemousse, mademoiselle?
