Hello! Since there’re a lot of new and newish folks on my friends list, this seems like a good time to do a bit of an introduction. My profile is actually pretty up to date, for once, so that’s a good, if brief, place to start.

That statement is not, strictly, true. For the first 22 years of my life I lived in Columbus, OH, and though it’s not the most exciting spot in the universe, plenty happened. I went to public school, then Catholic school, then back to public school. I joined the Girl Scouts and went camping every summer. I played on the middle school volleyball team, and loved it, even though I’m rubbish at sports. I took piano lessons, then flute lessons, then oboe lessons, and I was in both my high school and college marching bands. During that time I did lots of reading, I majored in English, I worked at the library, and I bought too much from the local Half-Price Books.

Fast forward to now. Up until, um, three days ago, I lived in Merriam, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City. At this moment I’m in Columbus, but I’m basically in transit on my way to Washington, D.C. In September I’ll start classes (again) for my MLS at the University of Maryland. I’m still debating whether a Buckeye or a Terrapin is a weirder mascot. I mean, yeah, terrapin is just a turtle, but it’s a funny word, and there not exactly fierce, now, are they? Buckeyes actually can kill you. They’re poisonous. So don’t ever eat them, unless it’s a candy one. (BTW: I'm an alum of the Ohio State University, and I definitely drank the kool-aid. I'm not a big sports person, but I am a Buckeye person, a side effect of being in TBDBITL and watching every Buckeye football game for four years. OSU can be a weird place, but I'm glad I went there.)

One of my goals in life is to life in Europe. I am not precisely sure how I’m going to accomplish this, but I’ll think of something.

I have a bit of an obsession with languages and linguistics. I’m mostly into historical and sociolinguistics, but I think it’s all fascinating, even if the more complex theoretical stuff goes over my head. I speak Italian (poorly, in my opinion) and some Spanish, and I have an ever-expanding list of languages I’d love to learn (all of them). I fail at French, although I learned “reading the street signs” French in Montreal.

A few months ago I read In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan, and since then I’m really focused on eating healthy food rather than being on any sort of diet. I’ve started eating a lot more fresh fruits and vegetables, and have developed a sort of obsession with spinach salad.

I listen to music pretty much constantly, so I’m always looking for something new. Some of my current favorites include Rilo Kiley, Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s, Duffy, and Vampire Weekend. Two recent discoveries of mine are Neon Neon’s “I Told Her On Alderaan” and Little Jackie’s “The World Should Revolve Around Me.” I have a profile at last.fm because I’m a sucker for statistics.

I love the Harry Potter books, and I’m still somewhat involved in that fandom. My fandom pursuits for HP were centered at The Sugar Quill, but I now keep up with some of my friends from there on LJ. I like Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione, and I hate ship wars. I can be a lot like Hermione sometimes.

HP actually led me to Doctor Who, thanks to the crazy active Who thread on the SQ Forums. I watched “Rose”, but wasn’t sold, but after the Torchwood premiere, “Last of the Timelords,” and even “Daleks in Manhattan” dubbed in French, I decided to give the series another go from the start, and a new obsession was born. I ship the Doctor and Rose, and I think Donna is just about the most awesome woman ever. I also watch Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. SJA is probably the better show, but TW has cracky fun. I'm also working my way through the classic series. Four and Romana are one of my favorite teams, and I think "City of Death" is one of the best stories of any era.

Yesterday I stopped myself from buying a fourth pair of Converse, but only because they didn't have my size in the color I wanted. I try to dress like a grown up, but always end up back in jeans and tennis shoes.

I read constantly, but I don't have a favorite book. There are just too many.
