With Sarah Palin reenergizing the Republican ticket, Democrats everywhere are getting scared. Collins tells everyone to calm the heck down because there's plenty of time for swing-state voters (YAY OHIO!) to make a decision, and meanwhile, isn't it great that we didn't get swallowed by a black hole yet?

I can tell you as a UK citizen that a lot of us over here are looking at her as kind of a freak show. ^^; "She's from WHERE? She wants to shoot POLAR BEARS? She thinks ALASKA should be INDEPENDENT? LOLZ, this woman is HILARIOUS!!!" So if McCain gets voted in, the Europeans won't make jokes about the President any more, they'll make jokes about the VP instead. And how.

I'm even looking at her like she's a kind of freak show! She finally had her first TV interview this week in which she looked pretty but sounded like she didn't have a clue. Spotting Russia from Alaska = FOREIGN POLICY SMARTZ! We could always retaliate by making jokes about London electing Boris Johnson, but most Americans don't know who he is. (Though I've read even he's backing Obama!)

Haha, Boris Johnson is... like... the perfect English stereotype, at least, what Americans see as the stereotypical Englishman. But while the accent, the expressions and the buffonish demeanour are all real, they're only one aspect of him.

If you want a comparison, Boris is not like Sarah Palin, he's more like an English Bill Clinton. Bill has that Southern accent and informality and charm, which made everyone think he was just a good ol' boy, while in reality he was actually really smart (except when it came to women). Similarly, Boris has the accent, the strange expressions, he could be straight out of a P.G. Wodehouse novel, yes, but he most certainly has a brain and it's working all the time (he was a journalist before a politican, so he knows how the press works and he can speak German and French). But he acts like an idiot because it's useful if people think he's an idiot. You see?

Oh, Bill Clinton. :) He spoke at my commencement ceremony last year, which has nothing to do with anything, of course.

It's good to know that Boris Johnson actually is intelligent, even if he pretends not to be. (Pretending to be a buffoon is still funny, though! Bill Clinton was also pretty darn funny.) I'd love if we could have somebody intelligent in charge here. That's why I liked Ron Paul best of all the Republican candidates. Even though I disagreed with his stances on almost everything, he could give articulate and well thought out justifications for his policies.

I can see why pretending to be duller than you are could be good though. After all, John Kerry was criticized in 2004 for his ability to speak French. *facepalm*

Wow, that must have been fun. He was always a good speaker. :)

Are you serious? O.o WHY? Is it suddenly unpatriotic for an American to speak French? And yeah, with Boris, it probably means he'll be able to do a lot while the press is going "LOL! Boris is Mayor of London, what a crazy world we live in!"

Yes, sadly that was real. Bush and Co tried to paint Kerry as generally "French-like" which is naturally a bad, bad thing. Did you hear about all that "Freedom fries" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_fries) nonsense when France didn't want to support the invasion of Iraq? So saying Kerry was French meant he was cowardly and talked funny. One of them instead of one of us.

The French politely pointed out that French fries are from Belgium...

Yeah, I heard all about the freedom fries thing. Much LOL'ing was had over here about the whole concept (we've got centuries of hating the French on you, so we get the resentment of the attitude, but picking FOOD to get them back? talk about dumb).

The French politely pointed out that French fries are from Belgium...

*snark* Yeah, that sounds like them.

I also wanted to grab your government and say, "You know that you guys won the War of Independence with the help of the FRENCH, right? I just wanted to be sure, since you go on about the revolution so much..."

(I know you're aware of that. But it seems a lot of people aren't.)

Oh, you've totally got more history of French bitterness, no question. Historically France has been a US ally, always good for helping us win revolutions (against people they didn't like) and selling us land dirt cheap.

Of course, that was part of the problem. Bush wanted to start a war and got all upset that Chirac refused to be his bitch. Clearly he didn't understand that France is supposed to have our back, even when we're hunting non-existent WMDs!!

Chirac refused to be anyone's bitch, and THAT is why London got the 2012 Olympics and Paris didn't. Because say what you want about Tony Blair (and I could say a lot), he knew how to be charming.

Lol about the particle collider doohickey. I'm glad and yet kind of upset at the same time that no wormholes, black holes, or tears in the fabric of space have resulted from the experiments. Lost Souls was fabulous, by the way. I love me some Torchwood!

Podcast Queen FTW!

Well, there could still be black holes and stuff later on... I don't think there are actually going to be any collisions for awhile.

Were Martha's sexy arms audible on the radio? :P

Martha's arms sounded SO sexy. Srsly. Actually, everyone did a really good job with the voice acting. It made me happy to listen to them all at work.
