It's been a rough week for me, school wise, so to make up for all my frustrations, I've been watching a whole lot of Fushigi Yugi. Because it's soooo addictive. Last night I finally finished the series. It only took me seven years to see all 52 episodes! :D
In general I really liked the ending. It actually has an ending, unlike some series, and even though a lot happens at the end, it didn't get too crazy in the final episodes like Escaflowne. Maybe in another seven years I'll get to watch the OAVs...
This series sure does get depressing towards the end. I knew that Nuriko dies, since I read that far in the manga, but then everything just starts going from for the Suzaku warriors. It turns into a bit of a bloodbath, to be honest.
Everyone wants to rape Miaka. Poor girl! I can see why this would never make it on US television, at least not a major network. (I think the dub showed on cable at some point, but not many people actually watch the international channel.) Also, Miaka and Tamahome break up about once an episode. (So they’re kind of like Meredith and McDreamy in that way, only animated and much, much cooler.) Drama, drama, drama.
Supposedly one of the signs that Tamahome isn’t “real” is that he doesn’t have a shadow in Miaka’s world. Then several minutes later they show him running back towards her… complete with a shadow. LOL.
I’m glad Miaka gets to be a little bit bad-ass and save the day at the end! Even though Yui’s a bitch for most of the series, I’m glad that she and Miaka finally make up and go to high school together (aww… how cute) where they finally get new outfits to wear! And that Tamahome is reincarnated for
d4ni to swoon over... I mean, so he and Miaka can be together. (And yes, a little bit because Hikaru Midorikawa is cool.)
