Congratulations President Obama!

We've been watching Inauguration coverage pretty much all day long. Although I would have enjoyed the excitement of the crowd, I've really enjoyed not having hypothermia, so it's a trade off I can deal with. Plus, we couldn't have had our champagne toast on the Mall. :)

It's been a pretty exciting and emotional day. We're finally rid of Bush and have a new president who is intelligent, eloquent, and inspiring. There are a lot of problem to fix in America, but today it's hard not to feel hopeful about our future.

I'm still watching the parade, on TV and on C-Span's online feed (because C-Span are the only ones not talking over the bands). Yeah, band geek, I know. My college marching band (TBDBITL!) is in the parade, including some of my rookies, so I definitely want to see them. I was in the parade four years ago for Bush's second Inaugural, but this is way cooler.

I've been watching the coverage all day, too. I just can't get enough of it!

;aslkjdf;lksdjf Watching C-Span for higher quality marching band coverage! What did you play?

So you decided against braving the cold, too? Was it still crazy near your apartment?

It's not weird, I swear! This is important stuff!! I got all excited when they announced Ohio State as "here's one we know you've all been waiting for" or something like that. And I played baritone in marching band--the one like a euphonium, not the sax--but I play other stuff too.

I remember the baritone from my own band days! I didn't do marching band, though -- that's a foreign concept to me. I played flute and lived for the alternate days when the woodwinds could rehearse with the full orchestra. My band conductor was kind of sucky.

I did decide not to go, but only because of dire circumstances... I just posted the full story on my LJ but basically I had to go to the ER in an ambulance last night. We got home really late and I was still in pretty bad shape, so it seemed like asking for trouble to go to the Mall. But I'm really sad we missed out. It was still very crazy indeed around here -- we could hear the cheering and the cannons, and when the Inauguration was over there were tons of people making their exodus on my street. I heard some fireworks a little while ago, too. :)

I was in marching bands for eight years. It's very much a love it or hate it thing, sometimes both. I played flute and picc in HS marching band, and I was in the orchestra for a couple years. I miss being in some sort of ensemble.

That really sucks that your Inauguration plans got derailed! I'm glad to hear you're okay, though. And it's definitely better not to push yourself and end up feeling worse.

I know, right? When they did the wide shots, you could see people standing all the way back to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, which is over a mile away from the Capitol.

Now that is cool!

It's really exciting to see how everyone is so enthusiastic and hopeful about the new government. You don't get that a lot here.

You don't get that a lot anywhere anymore. It's so awesome.
