So my university almost lost half a billion dollars in state funding for letting students watch porn. For real. I find this both amusing and ridiculous. I also can't believe that the porn version of Pirates of the Caribbean actually has a sequel.
I watched episode 6 and 7 of Dollhouse this week, so I'm finally caught up. During the first ep, I kept thinking how lame the plotline with the neighbor pining for Helo was, and they went and changed things up and made her a sleeper doll. Hmmm. Is it worse to have a female character programmed to act like that than one who just acts like that for real? I agree with commentary I've read that Helo is pretty much the worst FBI agent whatever. He breaks the rules, but doesn't even get results for it. And who tells their weird, casserole giving neighbor all about their cases? Oh, but HEY ROMO LAMPKIN! What show is this anyway? Dollhouse reminding me of Battlestar Galactica is probably glad, because it just reminds me of Galactica's superiority.
The next one finally kicked things up a notch for real, and it's about time. I'm glad they're giving Echo/Caroline a personality, cause it's hard to really care about someone who's completely blank and wanders around talking about how massages are relaxing. And finally we had some clever dialogue! And Rilo Kiley in the soundtrack! I'm still not in love with the show, but it keeps getting better and better, so I'm much more optimistic.
Did anyone watch the Cupid premier? I didn't--I was pretending to work on a project--but I'm interested to see how it was, cause I was one of the two people who watched the original Jeremy Piven one in the 90s, and I loved Veronica Mars.
fiery_twilight tagged me for a meme the other day, so here goes... it's a little disjointed cause I answered questions at different times of day.
Firstly: People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question.
Secondly: Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.
01. Make a list of 5 things you can see:
Nalgene bottle
Can of compressed air
Scissors
"Fear the Turtle" bumper sticker
iPod nano
(I'm sitting at my desk and it's currently a mess...)
02. Would you ever get plastic surgery?
Only if there was a medical reason (like a scary mole) and I'd still not be happy about it. Medical procedures freak me out.
03. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
About an hour and a half from the alarm going off to me walking out the door. It'd be a bit faster not at 5:30 in the morning.
04. What's your occupation?
Digital imaging diva, metadata maven, and poor, oppressed victim of graduate LIS education.
05. Do you nap a lot?
I wish. Back in the day when I lived in Kansas (i.e. last year) I took a nap every day after work.
06. What was your first celebrity crush?
Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid?
07. Have you ever walked in on your parents doing the dirty?
Umm, no.
08. What are you listening to right now?
Regina Spektor on KEXP (Internet radio is my BFF!)
09. What was the last text message you received?
"Rory is on ER" from my sister. (Alexis Bledel was in the ER finale.)
10. What websites do you visit daily?
LJ, Google, NYTimes, WaPo, Guardian, DCist, Library of Congress (work stuff), UMD, weather.com, also lately Craigslist (yay rental listings!)
11. What was the last thing you bought?
I'm gonna say parking fees don't count, cause that's lame... so it'd be an Iced Chai Latte from Starbucks on Wednesday morning.
12. Cookies, cake or brownies? Choose one.
Only one?! Cookies, I guess, for portability.
13. Does the weather affect your mood?
It does today when it rains and floods campus and my feet get soaked cause Converse aren't waterproof!
14. What is your zodiac sign?
Pisces. I don't think this means anything.
15. Name a song that makes you think about a ship/character that you like lately.
Hmm... how about Tegan and Sara's "Back In Your Head" for Lee and Kara?
16. What was your last weird dream about?
I had a weird dream last night, but I don't really remember anything except that my best friend from elementary school was there. (We were adults, though, not little kids.) That's all I got.
17. Do you have any siblings?
I have a younger brother and sister. They're both college students back in C-bus.
18. What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
"One large pizza with pepperoni and black olives, please." Is it lunchtime yet? (I'm not actually ordering pizza though. It's still lent, so no pepperoni, and anyway, I packed myself a yummy lunch.
19. What are your plans for next weekend?
Working on projects and reading assignments. Woo-hoo! I might go to the Cherry Blossom Festival if I think I can spare the time and I find someone to drag along with me.
20. Say something to the person who tagged you -

Date: 2009-04-04 02:09 pm (UTC)I do indeed. I guess maybe I don't talk about my sibs that much? My sister is four years younger than me, and we have the typical we used to not get along but now we do sister relationship. She's still in Ohio getting her degree in nursing.

So, rental listings -- are you going to try to move closer to your school?

Date: 2009-04-04 06:26 pm (UTC)That's the idea. Fairfax County is nice and all, but I'm well fed up with commuting from so far away. I don't actually want to move until the semester ends because I'm just too busy right now, but I'm trying to get a picture of what's out there, what area I want to live in, and how much I'm willing to pay.
