As of yesterday afternoon, both group projects are turned in, which is a huge relief. I intended to come home and study for my next exam (which is tomorrow) but I just couldn't concentrate on databases and controlled vocabularies and boolean searching anymore. So instead...
Fushigi Yugi binge!
Fushigi Yugi is the first anime series I ever bought. At the time, DVDs weren't widely available yet, and anime on VHS was expensive. I think that first
Fushigi Yugi tape has four episodes and cost me $30. When
Fushigi Yugi was released on DVD, it was only available in two very expensive box sets. Because of the cost, I never got to watch the series in it's entirety, but I've always wanted to.
Lately, I don't have time (or again, money) to keep up with many new anime series. Even so, when I sat back down to watch some more
Fushigi Yugi, it immediately looked very dated. As well as being pre-DVD, it's also very clearly from a time before computer animation became so popular. The look of the animation is a lot rougher, but still very cool. I also think that
Fushigi Yugi has just about the best opening and closing theme music.
nyao. <3
There are plenty more series that I'd love to finish. I can't believe that
Sailor Moon is currently unlicensed in the US! I have the
Sailor Moon R movie on VHS and several DVDs of
Sailor Moon S. It's just a classic! PGSM (the live action version) is also awesome, but like
Sailor Moon Stars, will probably never be released here.
I think I'll always have a special fondness for the great 1990s series--some other faves are
Escaflowne, Magic Knight Rayearth, Slayers, and
Oh! My Goddess--because that's what I watched first. (It's all
d4ni's fault!) One of my other all time favorites,
Maison Ikkoku, is even older, but earlier this year they started a new live action version! Unlike the very strange 1980s movie, it's actually good! That is to say, it's sort of insane, but adorable. And Kyoko actually has a "Piyo Piyo" apron. :D
