And today, in the spirit of randomness, my answers to a set of questions from

Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
1. What are your top three favorite fandom 'ships?
Ugh, there are so many choices, because I inevitably seem to ship something in every fandom, all the way back to Mulder/Scully in The X-Files, the fandom the invented shippers.
Tony/Steve (aka Iron Man/Captain America) is my favorite ship of the moment. I've started reading the comics, and of course ALL the fic.
Han/Leia is one of my oldest ships, because before internet fandom, there were Star Wars books.
And for the third I'm cheating and saying OBHWF, that is, Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione. I was active in HP fandom for a long time, and I still love both these ships.
2. If you could have a dinner party with any famous dead person, who would you pick?
Maybe Emily Dickinson? I've always enjoyed her poetry, for one. And since one of the things she's most famous for is her seclusion from most of society for a good deal of her adult life, it'd be a pretty unique opportunity to talk with her. (That's assuming that she would accept the invitation, of course, rather than sender her regrets via letter.)
3. Least favorite book of all time?
Pamela: Or, Virtue Rewarded by Samuel Richardson. It's an 18th-century epistolary novel. Pamela, the insufferable protagonist, spends the first section of the book trying to avoid being raped by her employer. Her reward for keeping her virtue is... marriage to the same man who kept attempting to rape her.
Richardson, first in a very long line of male novelists with very messed up ideas about women.
4. A book you'd like to see a TV or movie version of? Got a dream cast?
I think Mira Grant's Newsflesh books would be great for TV, maybe one mini-series per book. (I feel like a movie might be too condensed.) I don't personally have a dream cast, but I remember seeing an interview with Mira Grant where she mentioned Jason Dohring as Shaun, and since I think he's awesome I could totally get behind that.
5. Favorite comic book character?
Right now I'd say my fave is Tony Stark, who has ALL THE FEELINGS. Although Pepper doing her Rescue thing is pretty damn cool, and I do enjoy Spidey and his humor. And I'm still new to comics, so there are many characters who I don't know well yet. I am fickle with my superlatives!
6. Favorite fairy tale?
When I was about 5 years old I watched Disney's The Little Mermaid just about every day. I really like fairy tales in general, but the nostalgia factor is strong with this one. I know it's now often read as very anti-feminist and I get why (woman changing who she is for a man), but I never saw it that way, and I'm still not sure that I do. I always thought it was about choosing your own way in life and not giving up on your dreams (Ariel was, after all, kind of obsessed with all things human long before a love story got involved.)
Only the Disney version falls under the realm of favorite, though. I didn't discover the Andersen version until later. It's got more pain and death, which I was not as much a fan of. (So yes, I tend to prefer the happy endings versions of fairy tales to the creepy, moralizing versions.)
7. Ideal Doctor/Companion combination, if you could choose from all eras?
Could we have more Ten/Donna? I really loved their run. If I could create my own combo though, I'd want to bring back under-utilized former companions, and, let's face it, put them with Ten, since he's "my" Doctor. (Also, maybe because Rose was his only on screen companion, I pretty much think Nine & Rose are the Nine team.) Anyway, let's say Liz Shaw, Nyssa, and Ten. Liz because she's awesome but got so little screen time, and since she was with Three during his exile on Earth, she never got to travel in the TARDIS. Nyssa because I really like her in the audios, but think she gets drowned out in Adric and Tegan's combined obnoxiousness on screen. Liz and Nyssa would do amazing things with SCIENCE while Ten was busy acting the fool with his wibbly-wobbly, physics, physics... physics, I invented the banana daquiri antics. Time and space wouldn't know what hit them.

Date: 2012-03-14 02:37 am (UTC)I can't remember if we read all of Shamela, or just an excerpt. There's also Anti-Pamela, which I have read in it's entirety.
Would you like your own questions to answer?
