I have now seen The Avengers TWICE because I thought it was a really fantastic idea to go again with some friends on a school last night. I'm pretty tired today, but I REGRET NOTHING.

(You have to understand here how unusual it is that I would go see a movie twice in a theater, let alone twice in the same weekend. I hardly ever see things, ever, to the point where I'm constantly having conversations explaining that I haven't seen Movie X that everybody knows. Most recently the entire Batman and Alien franchises. I actually started this whole Marvel journey when I admitted to
bookwench31 and
jumperkid that I had never seen Iron Man and they decided we need to watch it RFN. But I digress.)
I'm not really sure where to start except that I thought it was fantastic, which should really be no surprise considering: a) Joss Whedon and b) THIS CAST.
And now, bullets, because my thoughts are still quite unorganized.

- BRUCE BANNER. Going into the movie, Hulk was the Avenger I was least invested in. From what I'd seen in trailers and interviews, it sounded like Mark Ruffalo was going to be the best movie-Hulk/Banner yet, but he seriously blew me away. Bruce is very understated. He (usually) speaks pretty softly, fiddles with his glasses adorably, and is king of self-deprecating asides.
- Hulk beating Loki into the floor was one of the best moments in the movie. I actually didn't catch Hulk's "puny god" comment the first time because everyone in the theater was clapping and cheering too loud. :)
- I loved everything with Bruce and Tony. They are science BFFs, but they also seem to really get each other. Bruce is initially surprised that Tony is so upfront about "the other guy," and Tony doesn't hesitate to tease Bruce because he's NOT AFRAID of him. Which is exactly what Bruce needs. RDJ is so good at switching between Tony's manic energy to his serious introspection. Not many people get to see that side of Tony, but Bruce does because he gets it.
- Plus Bruce and Tony ride off into the sunset together at the end of the movie. BFFs guys.
- LOL THOR. It's kind of a pity that Chris Hemsworth doesn't take his shirt off in this movie, but oh well. So much other Thor goodness. "You mortals are so petty... and tiny!" Hemsworth just has such great delivery. He is this big, otherworldly weirdo.
- And he loves him some shawarma.
- I now ship movie-verse Clint/Natasha, cause DAMN. I like that their backstory was hinted at throughout the movie without some big infodump. Still, it's clear from when Natasha gets Coulson's phone call that Clint is important.
- Scarlett Johansson is always the "oh, she's so hot one" which is a shame, not because she isn't hot, but because Black Widow is so much more than that. Competence porn, anyone? It doesn't matter whether she's interrogating someone without their knowledge or, you know, jumping off Cap's shield to land on a flying alien chariot thing, she is really awesome at what she does.
- Can we seriously have a Black Widow solo movie? Maybe hijinks in Budapest with Clint.
- Loki is not a woobie. And Tom Hiddleston just seems to take so much delight in being evil.
- The first time when we see Clint and he's up in his "nest" just watching and resting his face (lol, Renner) is so perfect. He seems even more accustomed to working alone than Natasha, but by the end of the movie he's gone from just observing from afar to being part of a team. (Yeah, he's still perched above the battle, but he uses that to aid the team, not just as a good place to shoot people from.)
- I forgot that I do quite like movieverse Tony/Pepper. They are charming. Also, Tony/Happiness FTW. He always feels guilty about EVERYTHING. Dude deserves some happy.
- TONY AND STEEEEVE. So many feelings. Their confrontation on the hellicarrier? Ouch. Steve is just so earnest, and here's Tony, who outwardly is 100% cocky jackass. And really Steve hasn't had much time to process losing Bucky and Peggy and 70 years of his life, so of course he reacts badly. But Tony's got all his Howard issues, and suddenly dad's hero-friend is really here, only he think Tony is worthless. Tony tends to think Tony's kind of worthless too and is constantly trying to make up for it and UGGHHH.
- Steve, you are precious. With your flying monkeys and stuff. Now go kiss and make up with Tony.
- "His first name is Agent!" Oh, son of Coul! We should have remembered that Joss is cruel. But I maintain that Coulson isn't actually dead.
- This is comics. Death is negotiable and usually temporary. Case in point: EVERYONE.
- Fury is a manipulative bastard. He's not above lying to the Avengers to get them to come together as a team.
- When Maria is going to send a medic team, they are already there... but that's the last we actually see before Fury declare's Coulson is dead.
- It seems like Fury is ALWAYS giving out the infinity formula to anyone near death. (And if it's Bucky, pretending that the person died.)
- So there you have it. Fury gave Coulson the infinity formula, then lied.
- Does the final shot of Stark Tower with just the "A" left mean that it's going to be Avengers Tower now? Please say yes, Marvel. And please have the Avengers all move in.
- Overall this cast is just so amazing. I would... watch them sitting around eating dinner.

Date: 2012-05-08 02:02 am (UTC)SO MUCH THIS. I mean, don't get me wrong, I think Hiddleston is awesome, and the movie was totally made by Loki being a multi-dimensional villain. But a multi-dimensional villain is the same thing as "oh poor bb, all you need is hugs." No. If you try to hug him, he will KILL YOU. Painfully. And mock you while doing so. I don't get why so many people keep woobifiying him and wanting him as an Avenger.
I like to think that Coulson isn't dead either, and that Fury is just manipulating things, as per usual.

Steve's had stuff way worse than "everybody likes Thor better" happen to him, yet he's gung-ho about doing what's right. Even Thor, who just wants his little brother to come home, totally recognizes that Loki needs a smack in the head with Mjölnir more than a hug!
